View Full Version : Stupid Garmin!

I have an Edge 305, which until recently worked perfectly.

I stupidly let Garmin Training Center do a software update, and the damn thing has not worked right since. The big problem seems to be related to the waypoints (you know - left turn, right turn, etc). GTC transfers the courses just fine, but none of the waypoints come across. So one of the really useful functions of the Edge is now not available to me.

I've searched and been unable to find any info on how to fix this bug. Any of you folks experienced this issue, or know of the fix?

Thanks!

Jon

I do not own a Garmin Edge, so I cannot give specific instructions, but it is possible to download an older version of the .rgn file and install it manually. Go to this site (http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00447-00) to find links to older versions of the software.

Here is a better link (http://www.tramsoft.ch/gps/garmin_edge305-firmware-upgrades_en.html) for all of the older versions of the Garmin Edge 305 firmware. The link I gave previously only has the latest version. This link has nine older versions and instructions on how to load the firmware manually.

Thanks Rick. I don't think the problem is with the Edge, I think it is a Garmin Training Center issue (GTC is the PC software). I have bookmarked that site though, it is a good resource.

Well I think I finally got it working again. I had to uninstall all my GTC software and drivers, clean up the registry, and then do a clean install of the old version of the software (which Garmin no longer makes available on their website).

This is why I stripped my bike of every electro gadget last year. I have been much happier since. I just ride now. The only thing I have thought about using again was a timer that repeats a 15 minute countdown to remind me to drink/eat.

How do you track mileage? Or do you even bother?

I don't track mileage to a tee. If I want to know how far I went on a particular ride I will either map it on bikely.com or I'll just ask someone on the ride. Most of routes around here I already know the mileage but sometimes I go further or shorter.

Agreed. I love the Forerunner 305 for its multisport features; but if cycling was my only sport, I'd be happier with the larger display screen on the Edge 305.

No doubt, it's definitely better if you run and ride. I really like the data I can pull from the watch once it's syncs to my laptop.
