View Full Version : 9 speed chain on a 10 speed crank
My FSA Energy ISIS compact crank is getting a bit worn, thinking of
replacing with a Shimano compact crank (R700, Ultergra or Ultegra SL)
but I'm running a 9 speed DA7700 setup. Will the chain be too wide for
the 10-speed chain rings? If so what's the fix? I suppose I could run a
10-speed chain but would prefer to stay with the 9. Space the rings out?
thanks to all

Shouldn't have any problems. Go for it.

The tooth width is the same, IIRC. Main difference is the inside face
of the big ring is actually thicker on the 10-speed ring, to guide the
chain down to the smaller one and prevent the chain from skating
between rings.
