I used paint stripped that comes in a spray can and it worked perfect.
Spray it on, wait a few mins and the decals almost fall off on their own.
I'm guessing your paste would work the same (?), but I'm not familiar with
it. If you use the spray stuff I would recommend shielding your chain and
components from overspray.

denatured alcohol from WalMart should remove "normal" enamel oil based
paint.
MEK probably removes epoxy. MEK is dangerous.

Have you tried a blow-dryer? In most cases, mild heat will soften
glue enough that the decal can simply be pulled away, intact ...
