It may be possible to build a pretty interesting racing season in the USA
since there are a growing number of Tours such a the Tour of California, The
Tour of Georgia etc.
With another couple of Tours and say the Tour of the USA running CONCURRENT
with the Tour de France and probably paying a great deal more (climbing
peaks in the Rockies can make l'Alpe d'Huez look simple) could end up
changing the entire complexion of the cycling world.

Which "peaks in the Rockies" do you think make l'Alpe d'Huez look
simple?

On the schedule:
The Colorado Stage Race - this is a new one but could easily develop into
another big one. Let's remember that they started American stage racing in
the first place
The Tour of Missouri - another new 6 day stage race.
Other possible tours in the future:
Tour of Utah
Tour of Pennsylvania
There was also some sort of Tour of the USA that was mentioned though it was
a bit overambitious. On the other hand, what if they developed it into a 6
week Tour? Man that would make it easily the greatest bicycle race in
history.

Why do you have to always be so argumentative???
I suppose you could start in Salinas, KS and finish at the top of
Sunshine? The combination of the distance, headwind, and finishing
climb could make it pretty tough, eh?

That's pretty nuts. The guy with the camera seems to get down a hill pretty fast -
if he hadn't been collected by the other guy who crashed, he'd have probably been way
out front soon enough.

Well, those are hardly bicycles. 50 pounds, more suspension travel than
a light trail motorcycle, and more capable of taking a hit, too.
For that matter, I saw little pedaling and lots of tripoding.
Ah, I'm just trying to fan the flames. I love our down-hilling
bretheren, and their proof that head injuries don't have to stand in the
way of a healthy lifestyle.

Yeah and that's just the crazies. There are so many people riding up
l'Alpe d'Huez that a professional photographer can make a living
taking pictures of the passing riders and selling them on his website.
He takes a few shots with his banner in the background and then hands
you a business card as you pass by,

You don't notice the head injuries if you've smoked enough grass.

I saw no signs of triathlism among them - no sleeveless
jerseys, dork-bars, or aero water bottles, for example.
Therefore, they are bike racers and we must welcome
them as our own.
Also, the rider shooting the video was wearing a full-up
cow outfit. Only one or two more head injuries and
he'll be ready for cyclocross.

Not to mention that you'd have to ride right by my house on your to
the canyon. I might get a notion to heckle you as you pass by.
I did my first cross ride of the season into the hills today. Wall

The road bike doesn't handle the trails as well. I'm not the only one.
I'm seeing lots of folks trails riding on cross bikes.

Maybe you stopped in the town of Sunshine? That's where the pavement
ends. The Sunshine canyon climb finishes above the town of Gold Hill.
Somewhere in between is Tyler's house.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Salina, KS is at roughly 1250
ft above sea level. Boulder, CO is roughly 5500 ft above sea level
(at least at the west end of town, near the start of Sunshine Canyon.
The top of the climb, 9+ miles later, gains another 2900 ft of
elevation. It's 450 miles from Salina to Boulder.
I'm pretty sure such a ride would be pretty tough, probably tougher
than L'Alpe de Huez, especially when you factor in the prevailing west
to east winds.

From Salina (note spelling), Kansas it is 400 km to the Colorado state line.
Sunshine, Colorado is near Cheyenne, Wyoming, a bit further on from
the Kansas state line.

Hey Ben
If we ever get the cross World Cup stuff for Providence, Ri. you and
some of the other folks'll have to come out. We can do host housing,
and have lots of good microbreweries to make it a little easier. Be
nice if Chris Harnisch's Coonamessett race was in that time frame too,
since it's a great, low key event that goes through the beer garden/
restaurant, and they serve lots of great vegetarian food too. The
officials tend to be a bit shaky though for that one...
Looking forward to working the race again this year.

Yes, it would be tough, given that it is three times longer than
most one day stages. That is what I allude to.

At the risk of repeating my themes, the problem is clearly to keep the
officials away from the beer garden until after the race.

Google Maps only knows about the Sunshine here in Boulder County. BTW,
there's a Salina, CO nearby too in Four Mile Canyon. It's a strange
name for a town on a 10% grade.
