I worked out in the morning and decided it was too nice a day to not ride so I got up with Jay and we rode out from TGB. A little different of a route this time, going by the four horses to feed them carrots I bought just for them, and making to Cletus's shop in under 12 miles. I was like, how the heck did we get here in less than 12 miles? LOL

Took off out of there and made our way to Kenly. Had a bit of a stop to refill our water bottles at the McD's/Exxon and headed back. We weren't far into our return trip when a huge june bug or something flying towards me made its way under my glasses instead of bouncing off them or off my helmet, and whacked me right under my left eye! OUCH!! The skin tore a bit from the impact, and we couldnt determine if there was a stinger in there or not (we weren't sure exactly what kind of bug it was that whacked me, and my face was burning instantly, so we were kinda wonderin if there might be a stinger involved). My bottom eyelid swelled up pretty good and it hurt to look down, the wind hurt as we started back on the ride. Basically at each stop sign, Jay would inspect my eye for further damage, but the swelling seemed to have started to go down a bit before we got back.

Ended up with about 38 miles by the time we got back. Despite the eye incident and the wind, it was a nice ride. I have added to my ridiculous biker tan, to the degree that I am really wondering how in the world I can even this out. I've lost a substantial amount of weight over the winter, and now that I'm comfortable in more spring/summer appropriate attire (tank tops and shorter shorts), I cant even enjoy them without looking like a striped up weirdo! Oh well...I guess I can always say its a new tattoo, lol.

As for the eye, well, the whole area under my eye is swollen, but not bruised like I thought it might be. Im thankful for that, and anxiously awaiting this swelling to go away.

Hope anyone else who rode yesterday had more fun and less injury than i did! LOL!

Got in a nice 25 mile recovery ride (after the Shearon metric on Sunday) near the Neuse yesterday. Nothing as painful as the Junebug, but did get chased by a combine, which made for a nice 20+ mph race up and down Bentonville Road. When he turned off we both waved at each other! Classic...

I did a 44 mile ride from my house near Cary out to Jordan Lake. Very nice ride. Saw Boyd & Elaine taking a break near Jean's Berry Patch. Chatted with them a bit and went along our separate ways. Nice day to be out riding. The wind wasn't too bad, but noticable. No junebugs for me!

Didn't ride - pressure washed and re-stained the deck. Talk about excitement!

ungh Jon. i did that a couple weeks ago....as well as dug up old bushes, tilled a 4x12 flower bed by hand, planted new bushes and spread down some mulch...all in one day! would have MUCH rather been riding, but hey, the front of the house looks awesome now!

No riding for me. I spent the day refinishing a cradle that I had built 29 years ago when my wife was pregnant so that it will be ready for our daughter's baby to use. My daughter's baby is due in early November, but my wife wanted to make sure that all of the fumes were out of the cradle before the baby sleeps in it.

I did ride 182 miles between May 17 and May 23, though, so I do not feel guilty about taking the week off.

There is nothing rediculous about a biker tan. Only those who are dedicated and put the hours in the saddle can obtain a tan like that, wear it proudly.

awe a grandbaby :) is this your first, Rick? congrats either way. you should post a pic of the cradle. hand crafted stuff is always so much nicer than assembly line mass produced stuff.

This is the first child for that daughter, but it will be our third grandchild. Our other two daughters each have one daughter. Our middle daughter has a 21 month old daughter, and our oldest daughter has an 8 month old daughter. So far, we are five for five on girls. Our youngest daughter's husband thinks they will break that streak. We shall wait and see. I will try to remember to post some photos when I get back from the UK.

I did ride yesterday but probably shouldn't have. Did something bad to my back digging a hole to plant a tree on Memorial Day. Felt better by yesterday afternoon so rode the 9 miles down to Carrboro to join the Tuesday evening Wilson Park ride (the 20 mile slow ride, not the fast one. I listed it on the calendar here - good for you SlowSpokes). Anyway - about halfway out on the loop my back started locking up, couldn't feel my feet, and hips were so tight I wobbled as I pedaled. Not much fun. Fortunately my wife drove to the ride from work so I didn't have to ride back home. Decided not to go out today as planned (rain gave me a good excuse).

Ouch! I know all about the back pain. I hope you got yourself an appt at the dr to have it checked out. Nothing compares to the debilitating pain of back problems. Hope you mend up quickly!

You were much more ambitious than I was. I pretty much just let nature take her course. Don't have a lawn since I live in the woods, and these days can claim the lack of landscaping as being convervation minded!

you should post a pic of the cradle. hand crafted stuff is always so much nicer than assembly line mass produced stuff.I have survived the UK, bad food and all. Here (http://www.trianglecycling.com/album.php?albumid=37&pictureid=343) are soe photos of the cradle. My daughter found out on Friday that she is having a boy. Our string of girls apparently has ended at five.

Does anyone know where to get newborn cycling shorts? Considering that my daughter is 5'10" and her husband is 6'3" newborn might be too small, but 6m will probably fit for a short while.
