Can anyone see any compatibility issues with running the following
setup? Someone raised doubts about the Sugino chainrings shifting
cleanly with this mish-mash of components:

1. Campy Ergo 10-sp levers

2. Sugino Alpina2 compact double

Crankset will work fine with any chain and system including campy 10
speed.
chain will too
veloce rear and any front will work fine
the cassette will work if it has the proper campy spacing

Looks good to me. Although you can also feel free to use any Shimano-
spaced 9 or 10 speed cassette instead. C10 spacing is halfway between
the two, and any of the three work fine. A SRAM PG-950 12-26 9 speed
actually shifted better for me in an otherwise Campy-10 setup than did
the AC conversion cassette. My CX bike has Veloce ergos and UT compact
crank, a Centaur long cage RD, and a SRAM PG-970 11-34 cassette. I get
a 1:1 low gear, and it shifts great.

I guess the other question is whether the Ergos are QS or not. If they
are, a Campy QS FD might work better, but if you already have the IRD,
give it a try. On that CX bike, I'm using a pre-QS Record Carbon (non-
compact) double, and it works fine with the QS Veloce Ergos.

'QS' on Record and Chorus mean nothing. The innards of these 'QS'
levers are the same as pre 'QS'.

Thanks. The Veloce Ergos I have are pre-QS, so if the IRD FD will work
acceptably I'd go with that since I already have one laying around.

And since I have a couple of spare Shimano-hubbed wheelsets laying
around and will need to buy cassettes for them, my thought was to get
the American Classic conversion cassette. You say that you get better
shift quality with the SRAM 9-speed cassette. So would you recommend
it over the C-10?

IRD also makes conversion cassettes, which I would consider if they
work better. But they are much more expensive than the AC C-10.

I didn't make that clear enough, my Ergos are Veloce QS. The old
Record part is the FD.

In my experience, C10 is the best match for an otherwise C10
drivetrain, on Campy-hubbed wheels. The SRAM 9-speed cassette may not
have exact spacing, but the cogs have better shaped ramps than the AC
cassette. As a bonus, it's a third of the price. But there's no shame
in wanting your 10-speed system to have 10 speeds. Any of the options
you mention will work, and work well, but the SRAM 9-speed is by far
the cheapest if you have Shimano hubs.
