View Full Version : Madame off to the Olympics

Longo will be making what, from memory, is her Seventh or Eighth trip
to the Olympic Follies.
Pretty much an automatic selection, but by no means to disparage her
performance, it's somewhat of a disgrace that a 49 year old can win
the National Road Championship and National Time Trial Championship by
Three and One Minute respectively.

What is so disgraceful? It sounds to me like you are saying fattie
masters aren't allowed to win.

It'll be even more of a disgrace when she's still winning by those
margins when she's 59, and looking forward to her 10th or 11th
Olympics.

Nowadays a lot of people walk around just LOOKING for something to be
offended at; Davey accommodates them by telling it like it is.
But in reality, Davey was commenting obliquely on the sorry state of
womens racing in Dog****Reich where a 4 women group (not apparently a chase
group exactly) were too lazy or too stupid to work together to bring
La Longo back. Perhaps they were worried about the 5th member of the
group, Longo's team-mate, Edwige Pitel, who eventually took third spot
anyway.
Further, there were 16 riders, albeit several minutes down, who could
have coalesced into a viable group but failed to do so for whatever
reason.
And another proto group of 31 riders somewhat further back who failed
to appreciate that a group can travel faster than a string of riders
in ones and twos.
Not to mention that over a third of the starters packed.

We don't need no stinking rules to prevent us from winning, either.

Rico thinks Davey is a hard ass who hates women in tight clothing.
Rico thinks Davey lost money betting on a younger woman. :)~

In game theory, it's a version of Prisoner's Dilemma. Happens in men's
racing too.

Several of the top French riders have been ill this year, but Longo has been
training harder this year from what sources have told me, because its her
50th and she wants to make good. However, its quite likely she will retire
after the games, like so many other top women will do the same including
Luperini. Expect to see a mass exodus of riders leave the sport after the
games, and also for other reasons. From what I understand, Longo doesn't use
the computer or waste time needlessly, so she's very dedicated to training,
and seems to be well provided for. It doesn't surprise me that she is riding
so well. I don't believe the French women are that bad, but rather Longo is
just that good, as always.

It's a disgrace to the Masters Fatties in this country who believe
they need to start being to old at 30.

Well she won't be 50 until the Follies are over.
And she'd better go easy on the Make-Up too.
It seems to me she had a little trouble with her make-up one time.
But at least she didn't make a fuss like Baron Edouard the first time
he got caught
Hmmm. And she doesn't star in any Cigarette Commercials either.
