View Full Version : low gear grindy

I'm riding an internally-geared three-speed cruiser and today I
noticed the low gear made a grinding sound as I neared to top of a
hill. If it happens again, should I attempt to fool with that small
adjustment nut or should I bring it to the shop. It's the only bike I
have and I don't want to miss any days because I feel I'm on the verge
of a breakthrough.

Try adjusting the control cable first. I assume you oil it regularly.
If that doesn't solve it definitely take it to a shop. Internally geared
hubs are bicycling's equivalent of a wind up watch. I have extensive
experience with bike repair and I wouldn't attempt ti disassemble one,
unless I had no intention of ever reassemblintg it.

Maybe, but we're talking about someone who is nervous about adjusting a
shift cable, not an experienced mechanic. :-3)
