Kevin is goofing off somewhere in Colorado, so I agreed to lead the beginner ride from The Spin Cycle tonight at 6:00. It is going to be hot, and it is code orange, but as of now, the ride is still on. It is a 17.4 miles route at the pace of the slowest rider. Depending on who shows, that will be anywhere from 13 to 16 mph.

The purpose of the beginner ride is to teach peoplle how to work together in a group and use the group to bring the slowest person home as fast as possible. This is not a ride to show how fast you can go. If you want to ride fast, there is also a B ride (~ 18 mph) at 6:00 tonight.

I'm tempted because I think we'll be rained-out tomorrow. But it's so hot out there. Will probably be a game-time decision for me...I'll see how I feel when I walk out the door at 5pm.

We talked about coming out but it is so miserable out there so I think we're going to hold off, pray it doesn't storm tomorrow and consider riding from TSC on Thursday night and attempting to hang with the C pace group.

Heat index is 109  so I'm bailing tonight.

Betsy, I may join you on Thursday night as long as Stéphane can stay home with the munchkin. If we can't hang with the C group, we could always hang together.

we could always hang together. Was it not Benjamin Franklin who said " we must hang together, or we will most assuredly be hanged separately"?

I will miss you all tonight. Yesterday on my ride home the heat index was 102 and it was code orange. I took my time and stayed in the 39. I always stay in the 39 for the Tuesday ride anyway, so it should not be too bad.

Probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway...What is the 39?

I'm thinking no ride tonight - the weather is looking pretty unsettled out there right now.

You all made the correct decision. I only went because I told Kevin I would lead the ride. I was hoping that no one would show up, but there were five others. When we got to the light at Edinburgh and US 64, the wind was really picking up. I decided that we would go as far as the Old Raleigh Road/Lake Pine Drive intersection, then turn right and go up Lake Pine Drive to Two Creeks to High Meadow and back to the shop. While we were waiting at the light at Lake Pind and US 64, the rain started. We waited under the overhang at the small shopping center on Lake Pine until the rain let up, then headed back. The B ride was coming back about the same time we did. They ended up waiting it out at Fresh Market on Cary Parkway at Waldo Rood.

The Beginner ride went 9.34 miles. The B ride went about 15 miles.
