That video should have the following soundtrack:

Or you can just turn down the volume pick up your cup of beer and join
in with them.

Reminds me of something...I see Mavic cars with yellow bikes on top,
are those 'neutral' bikes that an unfortunate downed rider can use if
his team car is not handy with his backup bike? I thought I saw those
cars in the Tour of California also but I've never seen anyone use
those bikes.
Anyone know?

First of all, that crash didn't look spectacular in any way. It looked
like he was a typical Euro-jackass climber who doesn't know how to
descend.
And that hill he went off wasn't as steep as everyone wants to mekae it
sound. Any hiker could have gone down there and retrieved his bike.
A lot of melodrama about nothing.
And you don't have copyright permission to post that video either
(neither does YouTube). You do that a lot. Cycleto's business model is
apparently one of copyright infringement. Anybody could make a website
where they just post clips from real media outlets.

In part of that video, you can actually see the Mavic yellow bike
neutral support car...drive past the downed rider! I don't know whether
that was because they didn't expect him to rejoin, expected him to be
able to get help from his team car (which is what happened, presumably),
or because their priority was the riders ahead, who were more likely to
need immediate neutral help.
The yellow car going by at 44 seconds is the one you're looking for.
Here's two close-up photos of the neutral bikes:
08/tech/features/tour_personalisation_tdf08/mavic_force>
I recall that in years past the neutral bikes did not carry maker's
badges, so the Cannondale logo on the front is new.
Normally, neutral bikes are only used by a rider when they are very far
from their team car, and when they are on one, it is apparently a
priority to get the team car to them with a spare bike. This is both
practical (no neutral bike is likely to fit as well or be as familiar to
ride as your own bike) and commercial (it's bad form to finish the stage
on a bike other than your sponsor's).

One modern problem with the neutral bikes is pedals. They put clips
and straps on old style pedals since every team uses a different
clipless system. A Mavic bike would be a truly last ditch solution.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Phil/Paul said something about
it going all
the way down the hill.

interesting stuff.
Ryan...thanks for the info...cogent, informative, yup, I like.
I was glad that this young rider didn't slap his thighs and stamp his
feet like Cavendish in the 2007 TdF, I still find it hard to warm up
to him, and I keep waiting for his name to pop up from the
controls...very unfair of me, especially since he's one of the few pro
riders who says things like "Well, I fink we'll do OK." or "Bob said
to have a sniff....", that kind of color adds fun to the interviews.

Nah, I doubt the bike kept going much more than another minute or so...
(I have to believe that SOMEBODY got a shot showing where the bike ended up vs Augustyn. In the coverage, it almost looked like Augustyn was telling a cameraman that somebody had to go down and get his bike for him.)

Magilla is an idiot........
That hill was at about 36º Which is "angle of repose"
That is the angle where loose soil will not slide down anymore because of
higher friction over gravity.
Trying to climb up that is dangerous. It is like snow, if it breaks loose
you slide all the way down!
