View Full Version : The odds

Well, the bettors are giving Evans about a 3/4 chance and Sastre about
a 1/4 chance. Seems to fit with the analysis on the "Final TT"
thread.

http://www.oddschecker.com/other-sports/cycling/tour-de-france/win-market

The way to read the odds "a/b" or "a:b" is to translate to a
probability of b/(a+b)

a single value like 9 means 9:1 or a 0.1 probability.

Most of you guys are not giving Evans much credit because he is boring. He
has been on his own, like last year! Why has he not attacked and just kept
pace on the hills?? So he will be fresh enough to KICK ASS on the ITT!

You're using the old math. The odds are 50-50. They're always 50-50.

He's wheelsucked, but he's wheelsucked effectively. Part of what that
means is that none of the other contenders have been strong enough to
defeat the tactic.

You're right, he'll kick ass in the TT.

I think you have shown everyone the key to cracking evans; csc as a
team has to pour it on the next 2 days to force evans to keep pace; it
may wear him enough that his tt won't overtake sastre on sat. its
easier to say than do, csc must be getting cooked after their efforts
too. but we'll see; may the best man win

Don't underestimate the refrigerator of courage. If
anyone has one that can be dug deeply into, it's CSC.

All the main contenders suck wheels, but some find it easier because the
people whose wheels they are sucking are team mates who allow them to do so.

With a few notable exceptions, Tour winners come from time trialists who can
climb. All the five-or-more time Tour winners excelled in the ITT, even when
they weren't spectacular climbers (e.g. Big Mig).

I think Cuddles will take yellow on Saturday, but I'd really like to see him
win
the stage. I guess Paul Sherwen would call that 'stamping his authority on
the
race'. ;)

Anything that CSC could do to crack Evans on the next two stages would be
far worse for their guys.

IMO that is why CSC was riding tempo the whole day instead of drilling it.
They would have lost Sastre and both brothers before they put Evans into
difficulty on anything other than the steep climbs.

Hey dumbass tactician...why wouldn't that also tire out Sastre and Schleck?

Why would it just serve to tire out a guy wearing a different jersey?

You make no sense.

It's been to Evans advantage to have non-CSC riders in the GC hunt.
There have been lots of wheels to suck. Might have turned out
different if nobody but Evans and CSC cared about the GC.
