Any info yet on the Saturday Ride?

Bob
08-19-2008, 09:37 PM
Heya Broadway,

Bob and I were going to do about 45 to 50 miles or so on Saturday the 30th. We can also provide a map and cue sheets for a shorter one as well. There is a real nice 32 mile ride we call the Chicken Plant ride.

We were doing this as a warm up to the 100 we are doing on Monday in the Tour de Moore, which is really hilly. We thought we could show folks around Lee county, along with riding on roads that really don't have traffic (as in only two cars pass you in 25 miles kind of traffic).

I hadn't gotten all the details ironed out yet, as in who's house are we leaving from etc. I was going to do that on Monday after this weekends ride. Go ahead and e-mail me if you want more info ahead of time. I'll answer any questions I can.

Bob

Greetings,

We are going to have food at the end of the ride again this week. One of our TeamCBC members, Trish, has a business in Holly Springs called Southern Roast Coffee Co. (http://southernroast.com) (I think the link is correct, although the about page has not been updated). They are going to bring a 3ft Sub out to the ride (I'm paying for it, but it is only going to be $4.00 per person who wants in) and also some veggie wraps ($3.00 for a 6 inch). If you are interested, please let me know so I can order them in advance. I need to know by noon Saturday.

Thanks all,

Bob

I am a maybe for this ride. Stéphane is playing in a tennis tournament this weekend. If he's playing Sunday morning, I'll need to stay home with the munchkin. There's a possibility I might be able to drop her off to play with one of her friends, but on Sunday morning it's a slim possibility because I have to find a friend who doesn't go to church. I won't be able to RSVP until late Saturday night, and Stéphane's schedule will also determine the route I choose if I can ride.

Bob, don't include me in the food count. If I find-out on Saturday that I can ride, I'll just bring my usual PB & fluff.

I would love to go but am worried about making it the whole 26 miles.....new chick on a bike. Is there a shorter ride anywhere? Or should I ask, how hard is the 26 as far as hills?
ML

RoverDave

Monkeyfun30 - these rides are usually NO drop, I have not seen who is sweeping the routes yet, but depending on how long you have been riding and what pace you are comfortable at you should be OK. But without knowing those things first, i don't want to say "SURE, you'll be fine". As far as hills, there are a few, the way back in on the 26 there are some hills, but I am not 100% on the earlier part of the ride.

I am sure Bob will post more specific ride details very soon as to who is in what group and what pace they are riding at. You can use that to judge. Welcome to the group, you have found a great place to come ride and a great bunch of folks who all love to ride and are super friendly! Hope you can join us! You can also check out the ride maps on the first page and if you have the time you can always go drive the route and see...i have been known to do that just to become more familiar with a route.

Monkeyfun30,
If you're unsure about your ability to keep-up for a full 26 miles, you may want to consider riding with Winnie. From her post above, it looks like she will be taking the 26 mile route at a slower pace and she plans to leave 30 minutes earlier than the other 26-milers to account for the increase in ride time.

Winnie
08-22-2008, 12:37 PM
Monkeyfun30,

What Andrea said. You can start out with me at 10:00 at a 10-12 pace if you don't know how fast you ride, and then hookup with the other 26-milers if the pace is too slow. They will pass us at some point.

Bob
08-22-2008, 12:48 PM
I bet Winnie would love the company.

I made the route easier than the old one, IMHO. Winnie can let me know what she thinks after the ride. If need be there are ways to shorten it as well.

Take a look at the 26 mile map. Once you get down to Old Powell Rd, there are multiple ways to cut off some miles. You can do:

Spence Rd to Pineygrove Wilbon to Rouse Rd then to Rex Rd

Or

You can turn right during the route and take Piney Grove, or Cass Holt, or Avent Ferry back through town to where the route went by earlier and then back to the brewery.

If you want to cut some miles off I can create a map for you to follow if you want to choose a path. Just let me know.

I do think riding with Winnie is your best bet (Thanks Karen & Winnie!). You get the miles, but don't have to worry about riding solo.

Bob

I'll post a list tomorrow for all. Don't forget to order food by noon, if you are interested!

And, if it's not too late put us down for 2 veggie wraps.
I didn't see the noon cutoff for food until just now so no problem if it's too late.
This will be our first CBC ride.

Winnie,

Victor is from Sanford, and older gentleman who would like to ride with you. He said he would get there about 9 or so. If you would, please look for him. He is unsure of his pace capabilities, so he had asked who he could ride with. I suggested starting early with you, just in case.

Thanks!

I'm planning on the 40-something route from Holly Springs at this late hour - unless I decide to depart earlier in the am for a solo route to Ducan via Pea Ridge / Hwy 42, returning from Duncan on the 42 mile route que sheet.

Got off to a shaky start when I fell off the bike on Bass Lake Road...well I didn't really fall off the bike. My my feet were still attached, so it came down with me. Nothing major...just a scraped-up elbow and a huge bruise on my @$$...thankfully, my bruised ego took the brunt of the impact. A couple of bandaids and I was on my way.

Spent most of the ride with Team Schwinn (Dave and Hurley) and had a really good time! I had to be home by 12:30, so I broke-off on my own at Cass Holt Road and took the shortcut home. Too bad, I was hoping my map would look like Italy, but it ended-up looking more like Sweden.

My stats:
Time: 2:30
Distance: 36.2
Average: 14.5

KarenG

man...not sure who i was riding with today...did meet Perry, but the others, i have no idea....we avg'd around 18+ to the rest stop and i burned a few matches to catch up with this group...oh yea, Carlos was with us.

after the rest stop, which i think i stood around too long, legs hurt, it was some good downhill sections....i ended up riding with Carlos the rest of the way back in...thanks for pulling me back in - legs were hurtin' something awful! we took a bit of a short cut - that hill on woods creek would have been the end of me i think...

stats:
distance=40.3mi
ride time=2:19hr
pace=17.6mph
legs=well done.

great beer & company afterwards!

What a great ride. OK - so you DO have hills down there. Don't know why I thought it was flat. Karen and I had a great time, met some nice folks. GREAT BEER! (love that Summer Wheat - I'll be back for more. Your Jerseys rock. Too late to change this year but next year we might just have to ride team CBC at the MS ride.

Hey all!

Thanks for all who came and rode. It was fun as always.

If you are interested in Jerseys, please let me know via e-mail. I can probably hook you up. All the Jersey proceeds (I do mean all) goes to MS as a donation.

Dang, that was only 40 miles? I think we should have taken the long way. That shortcut route was not as easy as I thought. It was a gradual uphill after going over that small bridge.

My legs were really heavy after stopping. Probably should have just kept going.

I know I signed up for the 42 mile ride but a few of the posse dared me to move up to the 72 so I did. Awesome ride and good group. We averaged 19.0 until the last 5 miles or so when we hit some of those hills near the end of the ride.

The lead group I was in (Tim, Evan, Kat, Dayne and four others I can't remember your names...sorry) ended up with the following stats,

18.7 Avg
72 miles
3:44 time
Gluteus Maximus = ouch!

Huge thanks to Greg and CBC for hosting the ride!!!!
