The Raleigh All Stars Cycling Team is hosting the inaugural Historic Downtown Wake Forest Criterium on Sunday September 14, 2008. Races will be held for all categories, juniors, and women. In conjunction with the races, the Town of Wake Forest will be hosting a bike safety rodeo for children.

We need volunteers to assist with marshalling the race course. The responsiblity of the marshalls is to ensure that vehicles do not enter the course while races are in progress and that pedestrians cross the streets in a safe manner. There are three 3 hours shifts. 8am - 11am, 11am - 2pm, and 2pm - 5pm.

More information can be found at:

Please send me a Private Message through this site if you can volunteer. Please be sure to include your name, email address, and phone number in the Private Message.

Thanks,
Kirk Port,
Raleigh All-Stars Cycling Team

If anyone is not doing the MS-150 that weekend, this should be a fun event. I've been a course marshall for the Raleigh Criterium, it is a lot of fun and a nice way to help out the cycling community.

my son and i helped set up, marshalled corner #2 for 4 hrs, saw the kids race (everybody WON! just like t-ball!), and watched one race after lunch; then one of us was a little too hot and tired

the amount of work that goes in to race organizing, setting up, operating, and tearing down is impressive;

historic wake forest downtown is attractive; looks like they are maintaining the charm and working to keep it viable

this is the first time i've seen a criterium race; i like the intensity and the cat/mouse games; i agree with a guy that i was talking to when he said, "i wish i had found this sport earlier"

looking forward to the second annual HWFDC

wake forest fun facts:

this morning, at my son's bus stop, i heard the story of wake forest university being wooed away from wake forest by the combined towns of winston and salem; nice to finally understand that business; fellow named reynolds had a hand in it evidently

the irony dept notes that in wake forest on the corner of elm and franklin there is a very new and large fire company; a fire company on franklin - a street that shares a name with b. franklin, who was himself a founding father of fire companies in what was to become the USA; nice touch

Mike,

The race organizing committee is very appreciative of you volunteering your precious time for our race. It was a very hot day on Sunday in more ways than one. Thanks again for making the Historic Downtown Criterium a success.

Regards,
Kirk
