Any good group rides over the Labor Day weekend besides the usual shop rides? Cary/Apex area would be best for me :D.

Thanks.

HI,

TeamCBC is going to have a ride/cookout out of Sanford on Saturday. More on that on the ride list tomorrow.

Tour de Moore is on Monday. Challenging hilly 50 or 100 miles. That comes out of Southern Pines.

Is anyone planning to ride the Tour de Moore Century? I last rode this in 1998 and got my clock cleaned. I'm hoping for a redemption ride this year.

Anybody up for an early morning (6-7) British/Metric Century on Labour/Labor Day?

I start in central Raleigh and will ride out to meet anywhere in a 10-15m radius.

Fast or slow.

I need to work on learning long routes. I am directionally challenged, a slow learner, ADD, and forgetful. Every ride is like a new experience.

Mike: Here's a decent out-and-back ride that will give you 30+/- hilly miles. It starts near North Hills.

I would like to get with a group ride Monday early, say 6,7,but at least before 8 am. Hoping for > 30 miles and , 60. I'm just starting back so I can't do major distance rides like all you pro's. I live on 1010 in Cary near the intersection of Kildaire Farm Rd. My average speed so far is 15 MPH.

Thanks for the ride map. I have lot's of Raleigh loops and o/b, but your ride will freshen up my repertoire.

Lassiter Mill is fun to grind up. I haven't tried Pamlico Drive yet but it looks like a long vertical and the traffic would be less dense. Quail Hollow Drive to 6 Forks on Compton+Rowan is longer, multi-tier climb. Any of these put me into zone 5+ if I go fast. Your ride includes Glen Eden which is a wide, safe, steep multi-hill workout.

I might try adding SAS drive -> Harrison -> C.Parkway-> blah-blah-> Seabrook-> Glengarry -> Cary Ped. Overpass -> Wellingborough -> Tryon -> Piney Plains -> Dillard -> Tryon -> Gorman -> Meridith. Then it would become the Two Bridge Loop (Cary and Art Museum bridges). Notice the Tryon-to-Tryon narrow part avoidance? I use sidewalks on Tryon if I get caught in rush hour. Lots of speeding on Tryon.

My candidate goal for a Labor Day ride is to learn some rural Wake/Durham/Orange county roads. Maybe follow the CnC or VR4R cue sheets? Found some other interesting rides in the cue sheet section of this forum.

Would Millpond Village be a good place to meet at 6am? Is that a shopping center? Near the circle-thing I see on Google Maps? I'll be the one with a bike.

Maybe go south to Harris Lake and Raven Rock State Park. As long as I'm in the neighborhood I'd like to visit Optimist Farm Rd near the end of the ride. I want to see if those hills will hurt me again.

You mentioned SAS Drive. Will they allow cyclists to ride through the campus from Trenton to Harrison Ave?

I wondered same. I did it once on an early Sunday morning. I entered using sidewalk which was not blocked. It is private - and stunningly beautiful. It's nice when the wealthy also have taste. The drawbridge, moat, and turrets are intimidating. The guard house was unmanned. I was on extra good behavior as I felt as though I was being video recorded. The uphill towards Harrison looks easy but the HR monitor indicated otherwise. Not a difficult hill. Instead, it was a good head fake. Speed humps take away from the downhill fun.

I may be interested in this as well. I don't live too far from Millpond Village.

no need to take sas drive, ~1mile down is another cutover to harrison - brandywine/electra/dynasty. Quiet neighborhood w/ some nice hills.

I'm probably going to dust off my cross bike and ride Umstead, unless there is a better organized ride that comes up.

Hi Mike, pardon my ignorance with computers but I was wondering if you had this route in a cue sheet form. I tried to open up the link you provided but all I get is the map and wanted to see if there was a cue sheet that I could print out. The location is very close to my home and I would really like to try this route. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking about a redo of the project 400 ride for Monday.

Leave around 9:00 at an easy 17 pace.

It is 67 miles of mostly good scenery and some moderate hills.

Jon has the map and Q sheet info.

Perhaps he will post it.

I'm looking for a longer (60-70 miles) group ride on Sunday. I know of several alternatives for Saturday and Monday but I haven't heard of anything going on this Sunday. If you are aware of one, please post it! Thanks!:)

hey John - that route that Tim mentions, Project 400, is a great route around Lake Jordan...i might like to do that one again...it can always be shortened a little bit...

or if you're not interested in that, pick something else out....

Well I finished the Tour de Moore today. Nasty nasty hills and lots of long slow climbs. Karen would have had a great time!

103 Miles
17.0 average

Two cramping feet and a sore back from climbing all those stupid hills. I'm glad I did it, but I will pay for it tomorrow. My bum is sore...might have to stand up at work all day!
