Greetings,

TeamCBC will have two more rides prior to the MS ride in New Bern. The dates for these rides are:
Saturday August 30
Sunday September 7

This Saturday, August 30th ride will be in Bob and Bob's neck 'o' the woods, meaning it starts in Sanford (South of Cary on Hwy 1). It is a tour of Western and Southern Lee county, dipping into Northern Moore county. We will do two routes (a third if folks are interested), a 60+ and a 40+. We will gather at Bob's house to start the ride, returning there for brats, burgers (our treat), and CBC Beer (Thanks Greg!).

Jerseys will be available for those who want them. PURPLE JERSEYS ARE IN! We will have both available Saturday!

RSVP by Friday 4:00 p.m. with your route choice. That way we know how much food to get. I'll have some Veggie burgers as well. Food is on us!

When: Saturday, 08/30/08

8:00 60+ milers depart
9:00 40+ milers depart

Everyone arrives back in time for lunch and refreshments.

Where:
When you RSVP, I will send you an e-mail with Bob's address and my cell phone #.

Distance (Routes are being discussed and will appear shortly):
66 miles
Map: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/nc/sanford/351138408919
46 miles
Map: http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/nc/sanford/453329472105
(I can create a shorter route if anyone is interested, but it would be hilly with no sags)

Cue Sheets to be provided at ride

Pace:
ANY pace, although we suggest your average speed be 17+ to do the longer ride.

The rides will be no drop, since no one is familiar with the area, unless someone is comfortable reading a cue sheet. As usual, maps will be on the back of the cue sheet as well.

Please watch out for others in your group so no one gets dropped.

If it is raining where you are CALL! I will let you know the weather in Sanford Saturday morning.
I will be up, so feel free to call anytime after 6AM.

Contact Person: Bob. Send me an e-mail if you have any questions.

Hey Bob - I am tentatively "in" for a 60+/- route for Saturday. Definitive yes/no by RSVP time (as I have to co-ordinate with my son & his plans). And, I can do 17+ for the longer rides.

Karen.

Great ride, thanks Bob for organizing, and Bob for hosting.

Course distance was 68.83 miles
Average Speed 18.5
Time: 3:43

There was some discussion on calories burned on a ride like this. My Garmin says 4807 calories, but the Garmin numbers are generally regarded as being way too high. Cyclistats gives a more realistic 2895 calories (42 calories / mile).

Thanks to all for coming! It was fun to show folks around my backyard. I think we had a couple stretches of at least 15 miles each where we didn't see a car, and then usually it would be one car and nothing again for a long time. Weather was fantastic!

Thank you all for your support. My beloved bike had a more eventful day than I had planned for it. I really really appreciate everyone's support.

BTW, in zone 2, I theoretically burn roughly 600 cals/hour. I think that it varies a lot from person-to-person depending on VO2Max and so on.

Good luck on your bike. I'm glad it sounds like it will all work out.

I generally burn more, but then again I weigh a lot more than most, so on a fast ride I use up calories quicker. One of these days I'll get a Garmin or its like so I can measure it.
