Is anyone interested in a ride from Shearon Harris Visitor's Center on Labor Day AM? Either the 20 or 40 mile loop? My pace is 14-15.

is this ride still on? If not, I will probably find a good repeat of one of the OMV rides and look to head out about the same time in the morning. (8-9) am 14-15 pace

What time is everyone thinking about? I can ride in the morning, but I'm not yet sure what time I need to be back home...depends on the timing of Stephane's tennis match. I'll know more tonight about whether or not I have a curfew. We're doing a lot of "relay parenting" this weekend, but at least we did manage to get to a movie last night as a family.
Dave, if the organized ride doesn't happen, I might be able to keep you company on the pick-up ride.

I might not be available for a morning ride. Hubby's tennis match is at 9am now

I'm interested in riding Monday morning. The Shearon Harris visitor center seems like a good central location to start. As I wrote in the another thread, I want to push my distance. I'd like to at least break 55 miles. My pace will be whatever I can manage and still complete the distance. If anyone's game I'll create a route and post it. It'll follow some of the 63 mile NCBC summer rally, but I won't include col de Lystra or Bynum Ridge, although there will still be a few hills. It'll also go on the west side of Jordan to show people some new roads.

Here's an idea for a 59 mile ride from Shearon Harris.
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/nc/pittsboro/590224601219
I can easily add or subtract a few miles based on what people want to do. There are convenience stores at around mile 18, 30, and 49. There's even a Starbucks at about mile 38! I've ridden all these roads in the last few months.

8 am ride tomorrow sounds good to me, but 40ish would be my max. I don't think I can push past that.
Dave - I would accompany you as well if this doesn't go off out of power plant.

Any folks riding Monday? I'm looking a group for 20-50 miles. I avarage 14-15 MPH. I can go as early as 6 am. No later than 8 am. I can meet anywhere in Cary. Shearon Harris sounds good but I didn't know if folks were still going or not?

I am good with 40 from Shearon Harris. 8 am is fine with me.
We can just to the NCBC 40 route.

I can't pass-up a ride with Team Schwinn :hyper:
Y'know...Kayley's managed to get through an entire summer without watching dear old Dad play tennis...and my next-door neighbor owes me a favor because I watched their munchkin for 6 hours today.
I'll post tonight to let you know for sure, but I'm gonna do my best to make this happen.

ummm....I have a flat tire and I don't have a back up. I pulled the bike out for a once over and found the rear tire flat. I will have to see if my old tires fit. If not I will have to bail. And that really sucks because I will be in LA for the rest of the week and won't get to ride again till next weekend.
I will let you know later tonight.
LONG LIVE TEAM SCHWINN!
Does any one know if CSH is having their regular Monday night ride?

Dave, is it the tube or the tire itself? I have a patch kit to fix a tube, and if it's a tire, I have a spare that I just took off. Give me a call if you want, I'll pm my number to you.

Visitor's center. I'm either going to settle for 40 or turn off at some point during the ride so I can go longer on my own.

I'm out:(
Kayley wanted to have one of her friends sleepover tonight, and I couldn't find a good reason to say no. She's been behaving well lately and we just had a wonderful conference with her teacher on Friday...if I said no, it would have been for my own selfish reasons, and that didn't seem right to me.
I hope everyone has a good time. See you on Wednesday and then I'm off to Myrtle Beach for a week.
Does any one know if CSH is having their regular Monday night ride?
I am not sure. I called Friday to see if they were having a Labor Day metric and they said no, but I am not sure if the 6PM ride is still on. I think the store will be open Monday if you want to call.

Judy thanks for starting the party...sorry you can't make it. Andrea - nice call...my son was asking me what we are doing tomorrow. I am leaving town this week too, but we settled on baseball and tennis in the afternoon before my flight. I had that selfish bone aching a tad too. Have fun in Myrtle.
H
Where is the Visitor's Center?
Take Route 1 and get off at New Hill. Make a left. It's the building just after Shearon Harris road. Same place that NCBC starts their summer rally from.

Its the tire its self. I will see if I can get the tire I have on there.
@Andrea - sorry you can't make it, there's always next time.
@Hurley / Chuck - you guys are the best, thanks for the offers of help.
@Chuck - if you don't mind tossing the tire in the car with you when you come to the ride that would be great. If I can't get the tire squared away tonight we can throw that on in the am.
I will do my best to get there in the morning.

Dave, after reading your post, I tossed my tire, which is nothing like tossing cookies, but anyway... There's also a spare tube with the tire. I've sorted out how to get in my distance tomorrow. I'll do the 40 and then a shorter loop. My goal is to break 60 miles.

What a beautiful morning for a great ride out of the Progress Energy Plant. Rode with Tim, Perry, Jon, Hurley, Piper_Chuck and TracyW. Thanks guys for a great ride today and for keeping an eye out for me. Jon great push at the end I really enjoyed that last stretch and Tim thanks for letting me hang off your wheel for the rest of the last climb and for telling me to switch to a lower gear and spin easy that really helped.
Chuck hope you enjoyed your extra miles and got back safe.
Ok here are my stats for this lovely Labor Day Ride!!!
2:13 time
38.6 distance
17.3 pace A PERSONAL BEST FOR ME AND I HAVE REACHED MY GOAL TO BE AT 17 BY SEPTEMBER. :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:
Sorry, I'm just really happy with my ride today.
Dave!!! Man we missed you. Chuck brought his spare tire and tube; you should have came out.

Yup, I did, although I suffered quite a bit on the many miles of Old US 1 where I was fighting not only the rolling hills, but the wind that was coming directly at me. When I finally got to the turn from Shearon Harris to New Hill Holleman, the distance was 49.1 miles. There was no way I was going to stop so close to 50, so I turned left and went up the road a bit. When I stopped at the parking lot my final distance was 50.8 miles and a 17.3 mph pace. This was my longest ride in about 12 years. Great ride today. Thanks to Jon for setting a steady tempo for most of the ride.

Just to echo Chuck and Angie...weather was perfect for a great ride this morning. Jon thanks for setting the pace that allowed me to stay with the group the whole way today. I was really surprised when we finished to see how fast we actually went. I never would have believed it was possible a couple months ago as I praying for air to magically appear in my lungs as I was walking up High House on Tuesday night(s).
Dave - Andrea...dude - dudette...team schwinn wasn't the same without ya...hope you all had a nice holiday though - you both were missed.
Hope to see ya all next weekend perhaps.

Ray needs to slow down a bit, when he leads he pulls 24+.
I caught up with them on high house climb and you're already left home. I forgot to bring my tools with me today, luckily Josh carry some allen keys. I need somethin other than MTB SPD soon i guess :P
19.4 was my pace, i'm sure the rest of the boys top it off easy since you stop for me a bit before 751..

Yeah, you are doing great Hurley. I think it is time to think about moving beyond pure muscle memory and start thinking about technique some. I tried to give you a feel for how good pacing can help on a ride today (and that little fast section at the end was fun - everybody hung together for a good while, 5 minutes or so at least).

You had a great ride today, thanks for hanging in there with me! I take some grief for pushing the pace on rides, but I do try to pay attention to how everyone is doing - if we hang together (like we did today) you may end up being pleasantly surprised by how quickly you went and how easy it felt.
Having the right pace (on the climbs, downhills, and flats) is the key.
