View Full Version : Lance Armstrong training now...?

Now that Lance has announced his that he will race again I am
wondering if Lance has started training again. My guess is that Lance
has already started because he has very little time to get back in
racing form. I am also wondering if he is riding with some of the
Astana riders currently..? Will be interesting to see how quickly
things happen..?

What I will find interesting is if he can re-establish his
exclusive relationship with his medical adviser. If I were
Levi I'd be concerned about that.

He didn't just wakr up last week and decide to return, he's already in
training.

He's racing a 12 hour MTB race as we speak.

Guess you weren't paying attention. Lance did Leadville in under 7
hours. He is already in shape. He still has the champion's legs. The
only question is can he still win a stage race.

He's been spotted powering up some of our tougher climbs in the last month
or two. And of course he continues to do frequent charity rides, pulling a
thousand people along at 22-25 mph all the while breathing through his nose.

This is a good question and forgive me if I've posted this here
before.
Remember what Lance and Johan did to prepare for the last 5 TdF that
they won? They went to France in the Winter and rode the hard mountain
stages of the tour. That was their 'attention to every detail'
preparation that, up to then, most riders were not doing.
If he doesn't do that this time, I don't see how he will be equally
prepared.
If he's counting on other riders not doping or on the speeds being
slower, he's going to be in for a big surprise.
IMO, a totally clean but highly skilled team with top riders should
ride the tour with (their leader/winner finishing with) an average
speed of about 35-36 kph, and NOT 40 kph. In the 50s, 60s and 70s the
speeds were in the mid to high 30kph (34.3kph, 35.9kph, 35.5kph resp).
In the 90s that jumped up to 39kph and stayed there.
There was a technology jump from the early 80s to the mid 90s with
brifters, carbon and clipless, but remember speed gains over tough
territory imply power gains that are not linear. You need a lot of
additional wattage to get 5kph increases. EPO has been rumored to
increase ability by up to 30% (again that's not going to give linear
speed increases, but will add an additional 50-100 watts, IME).
Look at the top riders and teams in Merckx's era. 34kph. That's what
they rode. Even with technology, a clean team would not be riding
4-7kph faster (total avg speed of the winner).

You don't think Dr. fast italian car can handle both of them.

This sounds libellous to me, are you accusing Leppy of dipping his

Somebody on this board mentioned 4th generation drugs. Will they be
ready on time for the very motivated riders to start using them?

Oh certainly he can. But prior to his retirement LANCE paid him
a premium to not take any other cycling clients. I imagine that
agreement cost him a ton of money. I don't imagine it'll be
easy to reestablish that, if LANCE desires to.

Now, now, take it easy there, Bub.

Dumbass,
You'll never hear him say he's never tested positive. As for
his training advisors, that's not a matter of speculation.

Junk miles. Doesn't he read Bicycling magazine?
More importantly, what color does he wear on his training rides?

It's certainly encouraging that Lance performed well in the Leadville
race. But there is a world of difference between some local MTB race
and pro racing like the TDF. But like I said before Lance has a
limited amount of time to prepare. It will also be interesting to see
where Lance chooses to train.
If Lance chooses to ride in the 2009 tdf I hope that Lance ride for
Contador or Levi if he falters in a stage.

He must have mellowed then, in the good old days he told people
to pull or get dropped.
