"Sources in the McCain camp, the Republican Party and Washington think tanks say
Mrs. Palin was identified as a potential future leader of the neoconservative
cause in June 2007. That was when the annual summer cruise organised by the
right-of-centre Weekly Standard magazine docked in Juneau, the Alaskan state
capital, and the pundits on board took tea with Governor Palin."

So nice to meet you, Governor. And don't forget, cucumber sandwiches and
preemptive invasions on the Lido Deck at four!

She's already passed her first test with flying colors: being willing to link
9/11 with Iraq, something not even the president is still willing to do. Last
week, she told a group of Iraq-bound soldiers that they were going to "defend
the innocent from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the
death of thousands of Americans."

Washington Post Fact Checker Blog: "The Woman Touted by John McCain as
the Most Knowledgeable Person in America on Energy Issues has been
Having a Lot of Trouble Getting Her Basic Energy Statistics Straight."
"The woman touted by John McCain as the most knowledgeable person in
America on energy issues has been having a lot of trouble getting her
basic energy statistics straight. Last week, Sarah Palin told Charlie
Gibson of ABC News that her state, Alaska, produced 'nearly 20 percent
of the U.S. domestic supply of energy.' Yesterday, she told a campaign
rally in Golden, Colorado, that she had been responsible for overseeing
'nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of oil and gas.' Both
claims are way off." Washington Post, 9/16/08:

Palin is still not in Condoleeza Rice's category of liar.

Not a single one of them IIRC. Not even close.
And she outright lied about almost everything else.

Condoleeza Rice's position sometimes requires distortion of the facts, and,
as it's not an elected position, is somehow elevated above the need to be
entirely truthful. Seriously. She can come out later and say that she knew
something wasn't exactly right, but that it furthered the appropriate cause
and thus was necessary.

Someone campaigning for VP can't (or at least should be able to) get away
with that. Or, to put it another way, we have not yet begun to see the
extent to which Palin is capable of distorting the truth. If elected...
yikes.
