The Count Down. 19 days and 2 training rides (one long and one short) until the Selma Cyclepaths lead over 1000 cyclists out of New Bern for the the 18th annual MS 150.

Training Rides. We had 43 riders in Clayton on Saturday for the 62+ mile Fremont ride. The cue sheet gremlins once again played their tricks and added 7 miles for many riders. We have corrected that cue sheet and we will not have that problem next year. This Saturday we will ride a new 66.3 mile route mapped by Tommy Fitzgerald and David Holmes. That cue sheet was sent to you separately a short while ago. This will be our last long ride. On the following weekend (the last one before the tour) we will drop back to the 42-mile Zack Attack route as we begin to conserve our leg strength for New Bern. Spin Cycle owner Kevin Coggins suggests not riding at all after Wednesday of the week before the MS 150. That way your legs will be rested and you will be hungry to get on the bike.

The Numbers. The Cyclepaths now have 87 cyclists registered for the MS 150 (3 more than rode with us in New Bern last year). We have raised $31,650. Team GSK has registered 105 riders and are beginning to close the gap in fund-raising with $27,696. We are going to have to work harder if we intend to beat GSK again this year in fund-raising. They will undoubtedly register more riders but we have lways raised more per rider. Team Nortel is also a serious contender, registering 48 cyclists and raising $25,155 to date. Please recruit more riders and set your fund-raising goals just a little bit above our comfort level. With a multiplier of 87+, a couple of extra contributions can make a big difference.

Contributions. I know that a number of you will be unable to join us in New Bern this year. We are anxious to have you with you as soon as you are able. 2007 is going to be a great year too. If you will be unable to join us, please consider making a contribution on behalf of the Cyclepaths. Several of you have made a contribution in the name of one or more of the Cyclepaths with whom you ride in Clayton. We eed all of the help that we can get this year.

Selma Cyclepaths and Carolina Mudcats MS Fund- Raiser. Cyclepath Scott Brown has made arrangments for a special MS fund-raising event with the Carolina Mudcats this coming Thursday, August 24th. To get the special package, you have to ask for the MS Ticket Package at the ticket booth. Please join us. The game starts at 7:15.

Annual Cyclepaths Cookout. Many of you attended our annual cookout at the Fitzgerald's this past Sunday. Donna and Tommy did another great job. This year we had unexpected entertainment from Wade Smith and Tommy Fitzgerald on guitars and Ted Godwin on harmonica joined by a number of songbird Cyclepaths like Judge Bryant and Ford Hibbits. Champions Against MS. Twenty-two Cyclepaths have provided us with 22 names of family members, friends, business associates and acquaintenances who are living with MS. The Cyclepaths will be riding for these 22 friends in this year's tour. Each Cyclepath riding in the tour this year will be given a red bandana to wear or attach to your bike as we remember these people. Special thanks to Cole Warren and Jenny Bradley for working with this program and figuring out how the Cyclepaths can participate in this program in a meaningful way. Cole will be distributing the bandanas at our remaining training rides and will have them at Chelsea's restaurant on the Friday night of the tour. We want every Cyclepath to wear a bandana or tie it to your bike during the tour this year as a reminder of the great cause for which we ride and of the many people who live with MS. There is no charge for the bandanas and many of us are going to have our MS connections sign the bandanas. Some of our friends who are living with MS will be at the dinner with us at Chelsea's and can sign your bandana then if you like.

Chelsea's Restaurant. We will be returning to Chelsea's Restaurant for our pre-tour dinner on Friday night, September 8 at 7:00 p.m.. We will have a room reserved for the Cyclepaths and family and friends are welcome to join us. Below is a menu of what will be on the buffet line.

The checks should be made payable to "Selma Cyclepaths". Please get those checks to him no later than September 1. That is when we must give the restaurant a head count. Tom Andrew's ID Tags. Cyclepath Tom Andrews is once again selling his shoe lace emergency ID tags for $5 with all proceeds donated to the MS Society on behalf of the Cyclepaths. Be sure to purchase an ID or two from Tom. He will have them at our training rides. Hope that everyone can join us on Saturday. The best thing that you can do now to prepare for the MS 150 is to add to your base riding miles. Don't worry about how fast you ride. Just get those miles in the saddle. Have a great week.
