Smile (CANCELED) Beginner Ride/Meet the Cycle Surgeon, Sun. 09/20/09, Cary/Lochmere, RSVP

Please print, sign and bring with you the attached liability waiver if this is your first ride with the group this year.

RSVP by noon Sunday, 09/20 to let us know how many folks to expect at the ride/presentation.

The Cary Cycle Surgeon, former master mechanic at the Spin Cycle Matt Lodder, has opened his own business offering professional bicycle repair and fitting. The Slow Spokes are hosting a ride to introduce the Cycle Surgeon to Triangle Cycling and Slow Spokes’ members.

Matt will explain the importance of having your bicycle fit properly, answer questions then demonstrate how to change a flat. You may ride and/or attend the presentation.

Matt offers mobile bicycle repair and delivery free to the local area. Fees apply to certain locations. Call for details. Matt is a graduate of Barnett’s Bicycle Institute and Bicycle Standards of Excellence (BSE) certified. Matt is Serotta Fit certified. The Serotta methodology of bicycle fitting is a very holistic approach to bicycle fitting. There are eight Serotta certified fitters in North Carolina.

When: Date Sunday, 09/20/09,
2:00 p.m. ride
3:30 p.m. Cycle Surgeon’s Presentation

Where:

Harold D. Ritter Park
301 West Lochmere Dr.
Cary, NC 27511

It’s a small park, so you can park anywhere and see the group. We will gather to meet the Cycle Surgeon at the shelter, if not occupied, or at a picnic table. If occupied, we will gather in the parking lot. I didn’t reserve the shelter because it costs $75.

Directions

Distance: 7-21 miles, we will ride two or three 7-mile loops from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. This route is on striped bike lanes.

Pace: Beginner, all paces are welcome, no drop. I will ride behind the slowest rider.

Cue sheet (please print)

Contact Person: Zonda. Send me an email through this site if you have any questions.

Comments:
  • RSVP requested to help plan riding groups. RSVP by replying to ride announcement thread.
  • Beginners are welcome to join this ride.
  • New riders should read Bicycling Hand Signals and Safety Pointers and Ride Preparation - Equipment, Nutrition, Hydration
  • First time riders with this group should fill out the attached liability waiver and bring it to the ride or anyone who hasn’t completed a waiver for 2009. NCBC’s insurance company requires one on file each year for each cyclist.
  • Please arrive in time to prepare your bike to leave promptly at the ride start time listed.
  • All riders should carry proper equipment in case they have a flat (spare tube, pump or CO2 cartridge). Helmets required.
  • It is strongly recommended that you carry your driver’s license, health insurance card (or a photo copy), emergency contact information or Road I.D. in case of an emergency. You may also want to program your cell phone with an emergency contact number under the name “ICE” In Case of Emergency.

Probably a good thing. Looks like the weather will be very hot on 8/9. As the calendar stands today, should be able to make it out on 8/23.

Glad you can make it! Hopefully we can go forward on the 23d. I'm dealing with aging parent issues.

If it is still on, I hope to go to the presentation, partly to get my STI shifter looked at.
