Is anyone riding in the Bike MS Tour to Tanglewood on September 25? It's also a two-day event. I know most will participate in the New Bern Tour. I would be interested in riding with a couple of locals for my first century. Yes, I'm on a team, but I'm not sure any of them will be doing long distances. Send me a message, and good luck to those heading to New Bern!

I'm a relatively new rider. I've been riding a hybrid for a year, getting ready to get a road bike. After anything but a very short ride, my tailbone hurts when I sit down, usually for about 24 hours. Then it goes away. It doen't bother me while riding. My tailbone does not contact the saddle, so I'm having a hard time figuring this out.

Anyone have this problem? Is there anything I can do, or will it go away eventually?

Thanks,

There are only four more Thursday Slow Spokes Rides this season.

The 2010 Slow Spokes Thursday rides continue this Thursday, September 9, promptly at 6:00 PM from MacGregor Village Shopping. We will continue to use and improve on the 2009 format for 2010. For those who prefer the old style rides, the Oh Melo Velo rides will continue at 6:00 on Wednesday evenings, and anyone who would like to continue to participate in those rides is welcome, but the Slow Spokes ride will be a collection of small group rides.

Riders of all abilities are welcome, but this is to be a strictly no-drop ride. We will all ride together for the first three miles. Then, depending on how many riders we have, we will split up into two or three groups. Those who thought the pace up to that point was too slow will form the first group, those who thought the pace was about right will form the second group, and those who were having a difficult time keeping up will form the third group. Each group will stay together at the fastest pace that the slowest rider in that group can maintain.

This is an out and back ride. We start promptly at 6:00 PM, ride half way until sunset, then turn around and return. The days are continuing to get shorter now. The sun sets at 7:61 PM, so we will ride out until 6:45 PM, then turn around and come back. Depending on the pace (which will be determined by the slowest rider), I expect that we will go somewhere between 15 and 24 miles, so do not be alarmed when you see that the cue sheet says 57.9 miles. We will turn around before we get to the end of the route. This is nearly identical to the route we have been using since March 19, 2009 and it gets us out of traffic as quickly as possible.

This is also a "no big chainring" ride. The biggest mistake most new riders make is trying to push too hard a gear. One of our goals is going to be to keep the group together, and it is far easier to adjust your speed to that of the riders around you when you are pedalling faster in an easier gear.

Please print and bring your own cue sheet

The sun sets at 7:31 PM

Turnaround time is 6:45 PM

RSVP is requested, but not required. RSVP by replying to this post.

Beginners are welcome and encouraged to join this ride. You will not find a better opportunity for a first group ride.

New riders should read Bicycling Hand Signals and Safety Pointers and Ride Preparation - Equipment, Nutrition, Hydration

First time riders with this group should fill out the linked liability waiver and bring it to the ride. NCBC’s insurance company requires one on file each year for each cyclist.

Please arrive in time to prepare your bike to leave promptly at 6:00 PM.

All riders should carry proper equipment in case they have a flat (spare tube, pump or CO2 cartridge).

Helmets are required.

It is strongly recommended that you carry your driver’s license, health insurance card (or a photo copy), emergency contact information or Road I.D. in case of an emergency. You may also want to program your cell phone with an emergency contact number under the name “ICE” In Case of Emergency.

Coming down to the wire here for the MS 150 in New Bern, and as luck would have it, I have a reservation that I will not be using after all. My wife is no longer able to attend, and she's the only reason I was getting a room in the first place. Camping for me means hotel room for you. Just let me know and I can maker arrangements for the reservation to transfer.

Room is a King Room at the Springhill Suites. About 3 miles out from the start/finish line.
The CNC forum is somewhat dead.
The RAGBRAI forum has a lot of useless junk on it, but it also has some helpful ideas for preparing yourself (and your gear) for a multi-day cycling/camping adventure.
The better threads are generally those that were active before the ride (last week of July).

Hello everyone!

BikeMS is just a little over a week away! I hope everyone his working on their donations! Remember, they won't let you ride if you haven't gotten your minimums in, but since we are all going to raise $1000 each, that is no problem!

One last ride before we go. Here is the info....

We are offering distances from a 4 mile loop to 72 miles. The 4 mile and 16 mile rides are on your own. The others have ride leaders, trainers, and sweeps. This ride is open to anyone, however we do concentrate on training for BikeMS.

Check out the ride calendar and other great cycling details at www.teamcbc.com! Especially focus on nutrition, hydration and group riding information.

Please RSVP by Saturday with so we can order enough food and have proper cue sheets. We will be getting pizza this week.

NOTE: You MUST be able to average the given speeds on the 72 mile route to ride the route. If you cannot maintain that pace over 72 miles you will need to work on your speed on the 42 mile route. This is for your benefit and safety!

When: Sunday, 9/5/10 Please be prompt! Watch your start times. If you commit to a speed and distance, please stay with your group! We will announce rider leaders before the ride.

8:00 17-19 mph 72 milers depart (speed is an average over the distance)
8:30 Over 19 mph 72 milers depart
9:00 52 milers depart
9:30 Under 17 mph 42 milers depart
10:00 17+ mph 42 milers depart
10:30 Under 14 mph 28 milers depart
10:45 Over 14 mph 28 milers depart
11:30 16 milers and the four mile easy loop. Ride the loop as often as you wish.

Everyone arrives back at the brewery at about 1:00 PM or so.

We will have Pizza available after the ride so bring some food $. As usual, the brewery open. Make sure to thank Greg and the Carolina Brewing Company for being the sponsor of TeamCBC and BikeMS! CBC is donating the beer to support our MS fund raising efforts so drop in a few coins at the tap tip jar. Everything goes to MS!

Waivers: Everyone who rides will be required to fill out and sign a waiver. We will have waivers available before each ride. You only have to sign the waiver once in 2010.

Where:
Carolina Brewing Company
140 Thomas Mill Road
Holly Springs, NC 27540
(Park in the lot or along the street)

Several of our regular riders are doing the CBC ride from the Bass Ale House this Sat (see the thread on the CBC section of this site). That ride is for 70+ miles at 16-17 pace (no-drop, wait-at-turns, yada yada). All are welcome.

If someone wants an alternative I suggest they step up, call a ride, and post a thread.
